With over 30 years of experience, and a lifelong exposure and immersion in the culture and mysteries of this historic gulf front community, there are many stories to be told and much knowledge to share.... From the techniques of ancient naked divers to current day technology, Nicholas Toth's knowledge of the history of diving is informative and engaging. The evolution of hard hat diving is highlighted with special emphasis on Greek diving helmets.
Each seminar is interactive and visually appealing and provides the participants with a rare opportunity to view and experience the diving helmet in a way that is not possible when these pieces are located in a gallery. The presentation is enhanced with various items on display, including the iconic hand-crafted, authentic, fully functional diving helmets and original works of art.
An award winning artist, craftsman and cultural treasure, Nicholas has received the highest honors bestowed upon craftsman. He is a National Heritage Fellow, receiving this prestigious award in 2003 from the National Endowment for the Arts, in Washington, D.C. In 2008 he was awarded the Florida Folk Heritage Award, presented by the Florida Department of State, Division of Historical Resources, Florida Folklife Program, in Tallahassee, Florida.
